    This colloquium presents a keynote presentation and panel that problematizes harmful tropes about Africa. Key among topics to be explored in the keynote are the way that narratives around war and genocide are framed in news media. The panel will bring attention to the potential of African pop culture to not only challenge stereotypes about the continent but also present the rich tapestry of African cultures.

    Media, Culture, and Decolonization: Re-righting the Subaltern Histories of Ghana invites us to look at media and culture from a decolonial perspective. Through Dagbaŋ epistemologies and knowledge systems, this book examines media by highlighting how African languages, cultures, and traditions can shift how we think of knowledge.
